**Aviation Industry Employment Advertisements For A&P Licensed Mechanics

Many Licensed Aviation Mechanics spend their entire careers with a "Single Certificate", as only a Licensed Airframe Mechanic or only a Licensed Powerplant Mechanic.

These Employment Advertisements for aircraft mechanics typically read "A&P Mechanics Wanted" or “Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics wanted”.

Those ads are somewhat misleading as they are meant to solicit responses from Mechanics that have any of the following; an A&P License, only an Airframe License or only a Powerplant License!

This confusion in advertising is very unfortunate as the vast majority of aircraft maintainers have never seen employment advertisements for a mechanic with "just an Airframe License", or "just a Powerplant License". Consequently many of these "Single Certificate" eligible technicians believe that since they have never seen an advertisement for just an Airframe Licensed Mechanic, or just a Powerplant Licensed Mechanic, and because they are not eligible to obtain both endorsements, for them to pursue a single certificate would be a waste of their time, energy and money. Nothing could be further from the truth!

The majority of aviation mechanics including Back Shop mechanics, both civilian and military are already eligible for either an Airframe or a Powerplant License. This is true for the vast number of aviation technicians working at Depot Level Repair (DLR) facilities, Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA) level facilities, Organizational Maintenance Activity (OMA) level facilities. It is more likely than not that they can obtain the Single Certificate they are eligible for and continue on with their aviation maintenance careers.

Number and Type of FAA Certification Exams Required by License Type

A&P License requires 9 tests; a Computer, Oral, & Practical Exam for each of these 3 subjects; General, Airframe & Powerplant.

A/F License requires 6 tests; a Computer, Oral, & Practical Exam for each of these 2 subjects; General & Airframe>.

P/P License requires 6 tests; a Computer, Oral, & Practical Exam for each of these 2 subjects; General & Powerplant.
